Getting your garden ready for Christmas
For our friends in the southern hemisphere, a snowy Christmas just isn’t going to happen. With the temperatures souring above 30 degrees Celsius, that’s above 86 Fahrenheit, a Christmas in the southern hemisphere is very different from the traditional kind we expect to have in the north. Outdoor barbeques and Christmas lights, gum trees and water slides are pretty common on a warm Christmas day, and to prep your garden for the big day, all you need to do is think a little ahead of time.
If you have lawn in your garden, keep it maintained and cut to a healthy length to ensure you don’t have overgrown grass and weeds come the silly season. If your garden is looking a little sad in the lead up and in need of a little help, consider consulting with a lawn provider like Instant Lawn to install some ready grown turf to instantly revitalise the backyard.
Trim up any overgrown plants so the garden looks neat and tidy, pull out any weeds and tidy the edges. Make sure you haven’t got any precious plants in a central area that could get trampled on too, especially if you have little ones visiting. While you’re tidying up and trimming, add some colour into the mix by planting some new summer flowers that will make your garden gorgeous and bright, and don’t forget to add some mulch while you’re down there.
Get rid of any rubbish that you need to get rid of. We all know that the garden scraps can tend to pile up, especially if you don’t have a compost bin, to start clearing out the yard ready for guests to enjoy the fruits of your labour.
Something a lot of people forget, and it’s easy to forget, is to consider your outdoor furniture. If you plan on having most of the festivities outdoors, you are going to need somewhere for everyone to sit, so start looking for additional seating at op shops, or even a whole new setting if you like.
