Exactly, I could go to the supermarket and buy a chicken that could have been brought up any old how, or eat one of my own which I know has had a good life. I’d love to keep cockerels too….hopefully in the future I’ll have somewhere large enough where I can have little flocks of hens and roosters 😀

LOL. Germaine Greer would be proud. I probably could have found him a home in the long run, but with the crowing I didn’t have much time to do it in. Plus, tonight’s Coq au Vin was rather delicious!

Unfortunately it’s too late. I’m the biggest worrier in the world and as soon as the little blighter started crowing I knew he had to go before the neighbours got upset!
]]>Still, I think there’s something pleasant about eating a chicken that you KNOW have lead a good life. And chopping off the head really isn’t so hard; it will be over in a second and it doesn’t seem like a bad way to go.
