Bonsai, No Quick Fix!
I’d never really paid much attention to Bonsai before last year, then I saw a documentary piece on Gardeners World and later saw an amazing display at the Chelsea Flower Show and my interest was caught. I hadn’t realised before just how old some bonsai tree’s were and that Bonsai was the art of creating rather than a specific plant used to make miniature tree’s. I think I’d thought that to make Bonsai tree’s you had to use Bonsai when I was FAR from correct! Because Bonsai is the art of shaping, stunting growth and creating these beautiful little tree’s you can pretty much try with anything, Wisteria, Pine, Cotoneaster or even Oak!

So what have I done?! I decided to try and grow my own!! Goodness only know’s why because I doubt it’ll even look like a Bonsai within a decade but I’m going to try. I was gardening at a clients last year when I found a lovely little Pear Tree sapling, pale green leaves, dark bark and thought it could be just the piece. Transporting is very carefully home I planted it up and am pleased to say that a year on and its looking very healthy. It is still fairly small and then trunk is still very thin but with a few good growing months I would think that I’ll be ready to start pruning and shaping it into my very own Bonsai!
