Online Gardening Courses
My Garden School Offers Online Courses
One of the joys of the internet is that we can indulge in our hobbies by accessing the infinate amount of information out in the digital ethos. Whilst gardening is a practical hobby and the joy of it is being out and about in nature, touching, sensing and letting greenery wash over us, the internet is still of great help. We can look up that latest nasty bug that’s attacking our roses, get ideas and inspiration from online pictures because sadly we (the royal we) couldn’t get tickets to Chelsea, or join online communities and chat about our passions. Another fantastic resource that gardeners can access are online gardening courses and I’ve been lucky enough to be asked to trial one of My Garden School’s new four week endeavours.
Of course, you might think that taking a gardening course online is a bit silly. You can’t touch the plants, you can’t smell beautiful fragrances, you can’t get practical experience. But what you CAN get is a great foundation of knowledge and theory provided in an insightful, interesting and knowledgeable way. My Garden School currently offer a range of four week courses which are priced at £120 and include garden design using both plants, furniture and landscaping, guides on keeping hens, bees and growing veggies and some more niche areas such as flower photography and professional rendering for garden designers. Courses work by sending video content each week which you can be reviewed at any time, and in my opinion, is largely beneficial because, as long as you have a smartphone, the content can be watched wherever you are. Notes can then be downloaded along with the week’s assignments, helping to make sure you’ve understood the lecture content and can put the information gained into practice.
I’m all for online learning and I’m definitely all for encouraging more and more people to garden so I’m looking forward to participating. I’ve chosen the ‘Shrubs: The Foundation of Good Planting‘ course as I know a fair bit about the content so should be able to provide a decent review of the course….I hope to learn a few things to. I start on May 28th and I’ll give a summary when I’m done….lets hope My Garden School proves to be a soaring success.
