Frozen December
It’s Narnia here. The snow queen has descended with wrath and there’s a current white out. A light splattering of snow was lovely yesterday, with -8°c temperatures overnight cracking it into a diamond encrusted sleeve across the land. This morning I awoke hoping to see great depths of snow, but alas, there was nothing more, just the icy remnants of a previous days wonder. Until now that is, when the grey laden clouds opened and allowed snow to pour out of the sky in great huge flakes.

Somewhere at the bottom of the garden I can hear the chickens. The mesh on their run has caught the snow, turning it into a London igloo. Sheltered inside their white insulation I can hear them chortling, squabbling, and can imagine them looking around and wondering what has occurred. Mr Robin flits back and forth to the bird feeder, but no sooner do I scoop snow off than it is covered with another great mound. My verbena’s are buried, I knew I should have left their covers on, and at some point I’ll have to go out and dig them out of their encrusted tombs. Meanwhile however, I’m quite glad that my garden negligence left these rose hips on and cobwebs uncleaned….they look great as the bitter snow rushes in.
Sometimes, a bit of negligence pays off
