With the promise of an afternoon downpouring and the urgent need to dig in the remaining 30 or so chitted potato maincrop, a couple of uninspired hours were spent at the allotment. I could feel the undertowings of an unfounded rage beginning to take hold, and whilst time hacking, sawing, digging or hitting generally causes such an irrational mood to disperse, a cloud filled Sunday afternoon did little to calm the creeping annoyance. No tea, nor ginger biscuits, nor dog cuddles, nor the gleam of germinating seedlings had any effect. A black cloud quite literally rolled in and I’m afraid to say that though some of the subconscious lacking ability to concentrate on anything has subsided, I remain a shadow of my normal optimistic self.
Rocket makes an appearance whilst lettuce will quickly straddle the soil
However, I should have cause to rejoice. Tiny rows of rocket, carrots and lettuces are appearing. Bertie brussel is quickly outgrowing his bottled micro-climate, and though the frosts have been severe on tender potato stems, the soft fruit seems to survived the brief wintery interlude. To top it off a wonderful, blissful, downpouring brought momentary refreshing splatter to my face, the thunderous hum of a million droplets bringing a welcome relief to many a dry parched plant. With some more rain on the way, lets hope it washes away this irritating subsidence of character.
