Allotment Evenings
You know its summer when you head to the allotment through meadows of flowering grasses, a gentle breeze, the sun slowly setting behind drifting clouds and the distant sight of London’s Canary Wharf. Strimming paths, weeding onions, watering swiftly growing carrots, parsley and salad crops are all that’s of concern. Nibbling on the end of a sweet developing pea pod, taking a delicate chew on some slightly aniseed tasting rocket leaves. Catching a glimpse of burgundy rich sweet peas from the corner of your eye as they scramble and tendril their way up bamboo canes.
Summer Pudding Alley hides a delight of feasts behind its darkened nets. Raspberries cluster on the end of stalks, fattening beneath the waning sun. Gooseberries, hairy and hard ready themselves for bitter treats splashed with cream. Amongst the undergrowth burgeoning strawberries ripen, though in some cases cunning slugs have gorged themselves by eating them from the inside out!

Its summer at the allotment, and with a BBQ and hot dog in hand all is right with the world.
